GRP fibreglass.
A hard, seamless shell you can walk on.
GRP, or glass-reinforced plastic, is a fibreglass laminate laid wet over a flat roof and cured into one solid, seamless shell.
It gives a hard, walkable finish that suits trafficked roofs, balconies and complex shapes, lasts 20 to 30 years, and carries our 20-year written guarantee. Laid wet, it forms one continuous shell around any shape, upstand or odd corner, with no joints.
It is finished in a coloured topcoat rather than plain black, so it works on a roof that is on show. It is rigid, though, so it wants a stable, fully fixed deck, and the resin needs a dry, mild day to cure, which is why we plan winter jobs around the forecast.

GRP is rigid. The deck has to be solid.
GRP will not flex, so a deck that moves can crack it. We strip the old covering back, over-board with a fresh, fully fixed base, and only then laminate, so the shell has a stable surface that will not work loose. We lay GRP across York, Tadcaster and Wetherby, part of our flat roof services.
Is GRP fibreglass right for your roof?
For it
Best for hard-wearing, walk-on roofs: balconies, dormers, porches, bay tops and any flat roof with tricky upstands or shapes. Where you want a solid, trafficable, coloured finish laid in one seamless shell, GRP is the pick.
Against it
Not the cheapest on big, simple roofs. On a large, plain garage roof EPDM is usually quicker and cheaper. GRP is rigid, so it wants a stable, fully fixed deck, and the resin needs a dry, mild day to cure, so winter jobs get planned around the weather.
What a GRP roof costs.
GRP is laid wet by hand, so for its size it usually sits toward the upper end of the flat roof band. The bands are the same we give for any flat roof:
It is dearer than EPDM on a big plain roof and earns its keep on detail and traffic. A free survey turns the band into a fixed written quote within 24 hours.
Price your own roof in about two minutes →A patch that bonds in invisibly
A GRP repair means sanding back, re-laminating with fresh matting and resin and re-coating, not a smear of sealant. Done right it bonds in invisibly, and we are honest at the survey about when a recover beats a patch.
GRP gives a hard, trafficable surface, which is why it suits balconies, dormers and roofs in regular use. A non-slip topcoat can be added where the roof will be walked on often.
Surveyed, decked, laminated, proven
- Send a photo or ring. WhatsApp a picture of the flat roof. We can usually say whether GRP is the right call before we visit, free.
- Free survey. Deck, falls and upstands checked. We tell you honestly whether GRP, EPDM or felt suits the roof and the budget.
- Over-board the deck. A fresh, fully fixed board base laid so the laminate has a solid, stable surface that will not flex and crack.
- Laminate and topcoat. Glass matting and resin laid wet, trims bonded in, then the coloured topcoat rolled on and photographed before we leave.
Every GRP roof carries a 20 to 25 year manufacturer warranty and our 20-year workmanship guarantee, in writing.
