Roofing in Wetherby

From the Wharfe bridge to the A1(M) estates

Wetherby sits on the River Wharfe about 13 miles from our base in Acomb, 20 to 25 minutes down the A1237 and the A1(M). The Georgian centre around High Street and Market Place is mostly Welsh slate inside a conservation area, the villa belt along Linton Road and Spofforth Hill carries slate and lead bay tops, and the estates off Sandbeck Way and Aberford Road are concrete tile and interlocking pantile.

One thing many owners do not realise: Wetherby is West Yorkshire, so planning and conservation matters run through Leeds City Council rather than York. The paperwork is different, the craft is not.

"Elliott and his team are great roofers. Work was done to a very high standard but also done in a very timely manner. We've had many people see his work and ask who the company was."

"Got 3 quotes in total — EJL were by far the most competitive and had been recommended by someone I trusted. Communication was excellent throughout and the finish on the roof is faultless."

Wetherby roofing questions

How quickly can you get to Wetherby?
About 20 to 25 minutes from our Acomb base via the A1237 outer ring and the A1(M), a little longer in the morning peak. Free surveys are usually within a few working days, and emergencies get a callback within two hours, Monday to Saturday daytime.
Wetherby is in West Yorkshire. Does that change anything?
Yes, in the paperwork. Wetherby falls under Leeds City Council rather than City of York or North Yorkshire, so conservation area and listed building matters run through the Leeds planning portal and a different conservation officer team. The differences are procedural rather than technical, and the roofing standards are the same.
My house is in the Wetherby Conservation Area. Does that affect roofing work?
It can. The conservation area covers High Street, Market Place, Westgate, North Street, Crossley Street and Bank Street, broadly the Georgian town centre, and a number of High Street frontages are individually listed. Changing roof materials inside the area usually needs approval from Leeds City Council, so we flag anything that needs consent before work is priced.
What kind of roofs do Wetherby houses have?
The classic Yorkshire mix. The Georgian and early Victorian centre is mostly Welsh slate, with some stone slate on the oldest properties around the Market Place. The villa belt along Linton Road and Spofforth Hill is slate with lead bay tops, and the post-war and modern estates around Sandbeck Way, Deighton Bar and Aberford Road are concrete tile and interlocking pantile.
Does the racecourse calendar affect roofing work?
Only the scheduling. Race days bring real traffic and parking pressure to York Road, Linton Road and the lanes near the course, so for jobs on those streets we plan scaffold deliveries and collections around the racing calendar. A small thing, but it matters if you live there.
Do you cover the villages around Wetherby?
Yes. Boston Spa, Bramham, Clifford, Thorp Arch, Walton, Spofforth, Sicklinghall and Kirk Deighton are all within easy reach, around 20 to 30 minutes from our base in Acomb.
