We know the Clifton villas
Clifton is the kind of period stock that punishes a roofer who does not know it. We do.
Clifton runs from the city walls out to Clifton Green, and it is built mostly of Victorian and Edwardian property. Bay-fronted villas and terraces along Clifton, Water End and Burton Stone Lane, in Welsh slate with lead valleys and lead tops over the bay windows. On these houses the slate often outlasts the lead and the chimney mortar, so a leak is usually a tired valley, a split bay flashing or open joints on a tall stack rather than the whole roof. The bigger villas also tend to hide box and parapet gutters behind the front parapet, and those are where the awkward, long-running leaks come from.
Being based in Acomb, just across the Ouse, means there is almost no travel time to Clifton. Quickly. Clifton is about a mile and a half north of our Acomb base, roughly ten minutes across the river, so it is one of the closest areas we cover. Every call gets a callback within two hours, Monday to Saturday daytime, and an active leak in Clifton can often be looked at the same day.
What kind of roofs do most Clifton houses have?
Clifton is largely Victorian and Edwardian.
