A straight run north

Haxby and Wigginton roofs we know

Two villages that have grown together, mostly built in the same few decades, and they age the same way.

Haxby and Wigginton run into one another, and most of both is post-war and later estate housing in concrete interlocking tile. That brings a predictable set of jobs as the estates reach maturity. The bedded ridge cracks and lifts, the odd tile slips, and the original timber fascias and the guttering give out at much the same time. Plenty of our work here is ridge re-bedding or a dry-fix upgrade and a full roofline replacement rather than a complete re-roof. The older heart of Haxby around The Village and Station Road is a different, more traditional character again.

From Acomb it is a straight run north through Wigginton, so both villages are well inside our home patch. An active leak can often be seen the same day and a free survey is usually booked within the working week. The conservation area around the old village core covers some of the older stock, so we check whether you are inside it before we quote.

Meg L
Roof repair, York

Elliott and his team are great roofers. Work was done to a very high standard but also done in a very timely manner. We've had many people see his work and ask who the company was.

Rachel K
Re-roof, York

Got 3 quotes in total — EJL were by far the most competitive and had been recommended by someone I trusted. Communication was excellent throughout and the finish on the roof is faultless.

Before you book

Haxby roofing questions

How quickly can you get to me in Haxby?
Quickly. Haxby is about four to five miles north of our Acomb base, a straight run up through Wigginton, so both villages are well inside our home patch. Every call gets a callback within two hours, Monday to Saturday daytime, and an active leak can often be looked at the same day.
What kind of roofs do Haxby and Wigginton houses have?
Mostly modern estate housing. The large 1960s to 2000s estates that make up most of Haxby and Wigginton are concrete interlocking tile, and on a lot of them the bedded ridge and the original fascias and guttering are now well past their best. The older core around The Village and Station Road is more traditional. Most jobs here are ridge work, dry-fix upgrades and roofline replacement rather than full re-roofs.
Do you do fascias, soffits and gutters on the estates?
Yes, and it is some of our most common work in Haxby. The semis and detached houses across the estates tend to reach the point where the timber fascias have gone soft and the gutters sag, all at a similar age. We replace the lot in uPVC with a proper rainwater system, usually in a day or two, with a free survey and a fixed written quote first.
Is the old village a conservation area?
The older core of Haxby around The Village has a conservation area, while the surrounding estates are not affected. Inside the boundary, changing roof materials can need conservation officer approval, so we check whether you are inside it as part of the free survey and roof in like-for-like materials where it applies.
Which council handles planning in Haxby?
City of York Council covers both Haxby and Wigginton. Most estate roof work is repair or like-for-like replacement that needs no consent, but where a job falls inside the village conservation area we deal with the York conservation team and talk it through with you before anything starts.
Are you actually local, or a national firm with a York number?
Local. EJL is family-run and based in Acomb, a straight run south of Haxby, and has been roofing across York since 2010. Elliott surveys the roof himself and the same team does the work. There is no call centre and no out-of-county crew.
